DESCRIPTION
L-Histidine Monohydrochloride occurs as white crystals or as a crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, and insoluble in alcohol and in ether. It melts with decomposition at about 250C (after drying).
Function: Nutrient.
REQUIREMENTS
Identification: The infrared absorption spectrum of the sample exhibits relative maxima at the same wavelengths as those of a typical spectrum as shown in the section on Infrared Spectra, using the same test conditions as specified therein.
Assay: Not less than 98.5% and not more than 101.5% of C6H9N3O2·HCl·H2O, calculated on the dried basis.
Lead: Not more than 5 mg/kg.
Loss on Drying: Not more than 0.3%.
Optical (Specific) Rotation [α]D20°: Between +8.5° and +10.5°, calculated on the dried basis.
Residue on Ignition: Not more than 0.1%.
