Methanesulfonic acid (MSA) is a strong, non-oxidizing organic acid with the chemical formula CH3SO3H. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature, highly soluble in water, and widely used as a "green" acid catalyst in industrial chemistry, electroplating, and pharmaceutical synthesis because it is biodegradable and less toxic than mineral acids.
